Their Work
Operating in Northern Uganda, an area still recovering from 20 years of war, Big Fix Uganda is committed to improving the health and welfare of animals and creating positive human-animal bonds in the community. They are the only veterinary hospital in Northern Uganda and provide free essential services including animal medical care, rabies vaccinations clinics, and spay and neutering services. Committed to improving the treatment of animals in the community through humane education, Big Fix Uganda does substantial community outreach by visiting schools, broadcasting about the proper treatment of animals on the radio, and providing resources to local pet owners in need.
Big Fix Uganda also runs the Comfort Dog Project program which uses the powerful healing power of dog companionship to help war trauma survivors as part of a program of psycho-social rehabilitation. Dogs in need of good homes are rehabilitated by the Big Fix Uganda team, temperament tested, spayed/ neutered, then placed with war trauma survivors. The guardians make a lifetime commitment to their dogs, live with and care for their dogs, and participate in a weekly training program.
SPCA International recognizes how critical Big Fix Uganda’s work is to their community, and after hearing that they wanted to expand their sterilization services, SPCA International partnered with them to help make it a reality.
