Their Work

Throughout history a horse’s worth has been measured by what he could do for man. Horses have provided transport, done hard labor, carried soldiers into battle, performed as athletes and entertainers and have provided pleasure to millions. But if watch horses simply be horses, we can truly appreciate their intrinsic value. They are brave, strong, loyal and incredibly intelligent animals that respond to curiosity and playfulness in a remarkable way.

Refuge RR for Horses, located in Ontario, Canada, feels that mankind should be indebted to these magnificent beings, so they work hard at trying to give back that which should never have been taken away, their freedom, and providing them with the protection that is owed to them.

Refuge RR for Horses is a registered, charitable organization, which rescues, rehabilitates and provides permanent homes for abused, neglected and/or abandoned horses. Moreover, they also provide peaceful retirement for horses that are no longer serviceable. Along with their equine residents they provide sanctuary to a variety of other animals: sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, dogs and cats as well.

Currently, there are over 400 animals and birds at the sanctuary that require daily care, including vetting, feeding, socialization and networking for good forever homes. In addition to the regular cost of caring for such a number of animals with no public funding, the refuge has run into a severe water shortage (their well has run dry) and requires significant funds in order to bring in fresh water for the animals. Help to raise money for a new well for their all-volunteer organization is crucial to its survival. Their only source right now is transporting water from a nearby neighbor . Please think about sharing their story and supporting the Shelter Programs at SPCAI so that we can continue to help organizations and the animals they care for.
