Their Work

Founded in March 2009 the Kurdistan Organization for Animal Right Protection (KOARP) is located in Duhok, Iraq. KOARP is the first organization in Iraqi history to be given permission to build a stray animal shelter.

Through their extensive programs, KOARP protects wildlife and their habitats, helps control the stray animal population, and drafts animal rights protection laws. They also rescue animals and provide ongoing supplies for necessary medical treatment, and supervise multiple animal facilities to advocate for fair treatment (e.g. markets, slaughter houses, pet shops, zoos, colleges..). While KOARP has a non-existent operating budget, they are able to realize their objectives through the help of their amazing volunteers.

SPCA International is proud to support KOARP and their continued efforts to bring education, veterinary care and shelter to the animals and people of the Kurdistan region.
