Their Work
Lusaka Animal Welfare Society (LAWS), the only animal organization within the country of Zambia, has changed the way animals are viewed and treated with in the small country located in central Africa. Their free mobile clinics have vaccinated, spay or neutered, and treated over 5,000 animals that would not have had any medical treatment at all. Their hard work to educate the public has reached out to the surrounding compounds and more people are seeking treatment for their sick or injured animals.
Recently, LAWS held their annual Rabies Educational Day where they invited 350 local school children, the community, and community leaders to learn more about the disease and how it can be prevented through vaccinating their animals, as well as, the proper care and treatment of animals.
It is this aggressive approach that has lead the Zambian Government to put into place the Animal Act Law that is helping to eradicating rabies from the country and improving the care and treatment of the animals that call that country home.
SPCA International is proud to award Lusaka Animal Welfare Society with a Shelter of the Week grant for all their hard work and dedication to the animals in Zambia.
