Their Work
The Astrakhan Regional Public Organization of Homeless Animals, “True Friend” is located in the Astrakhanskaya Oblast region of Russia. Founded in 2011 by Svetlana Marchenko, True Friend aims to rescue abandoned and sick animals, educate and cultivate kindness towards animals and regulate the stray animal population through sterilization.
True Friend is one of the few shelters in Russia and the only one in its region. SPCA International was alerted about True Friend and their initiative by a volunteer who informed us of the amazing rescue and care of Tyapa, a young dog who brutally had two paws cut off by horrible individual.
Having helped over 600 dogs, 35 cats, 1 hen, cow, dove and osprey; no animal is turned away no matter the species or severity of their condition. SPCA International is eager to support True Friend in the construction of some much-needed improvements to their existing structure.
