Associação Amigos dos Animais de São Tomé e Príncipe Praia Lagarto (AMA) is a non-profit association founded in 2018. They are focused on improving the lives of stray animals through sterilization, feeding programs, medical care, and, when appropriate, adopting them out. AMA also offers a wide range of services to the community, including spay/neuter clinics and veterinary care for low-income families, dog training, and education on how to become a more responsible pet owner.

Founded in 2001, Animal Friends Croatia (AFC) is a non-profit organization with the mission of abolishing any abuse, torture, and exploitation of animals. Their advocacy work is focused on animal protection and promoting veganism as an ethical, ecological, and healthy lifestyle. AFC is the largest animal protection organization in Croatia and is committed to educating citizens on critical issues, including animal abuse and abandonment, and legal protections for animals.

SPCA International is proud to support Animal Friends Croatia to continue its advocacy work as well as aiding the stray animal population in the region.

The Canadian Animal Assistance Team (CAAT) is a registered Canadian animal charity organization committed to making veterinary services accessible to animals that would otherwise not have access to medical care. Their volunteer teams are comprised of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, assistants, and animal lovers with varying skill sets. CAAT not only offers spay/neuter services but works with community partners to assist in creating a locally run, unique pet population management program that they will continue to manage themselves.

CAAT was one of our veterinary partners during Mission Possible and helped spay/neuter the animals rescued from Afghanistan. SPCA International is proud to support their work.

Stray Aid Montenegro

Their Work

Stray Aid Montenegro (SAM) is a foster-based, 100% volunteer-run non-profit organization in Montenegro. The majority of their work focuses on the city of Bar, where they run a Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program. SAM is committed to helping abandoned cats and dogs and has rehomed over 400 dogs and neutered 300 strays since its inception in 2018. They also educate locals and tourists on relevant animal-welfare issues, including ways to help the stray animal population.

After hearing of SAM’s commitment to the stray animal population, SPCA International is assisting them by helping to expand their sterilization campaigns.

Merita’s Cat Shelter (MCatS)

Founded in 2021, MCatS is a no-kill shelter and the first nonprofit organization in Kosovo, a nation inundated with strays and relinquished cats. Working with a network of volunteers, advocates, foster caregivers, and local veterinarians, MCatS rescues hundreds of cats every year. They also serve as a resource to the community by providing information on pet ownership, including spay/neuter, positive behavior training, nutrition, and veterinary care. MCatS is committed to promoting compassion towards strays through education and advocacy efforts.

After hearing of the incredible work MCatS’s is doing, SPCA International wanted to lend them a helping hand so that they could rescue and adopt out more cats in need.

Roatan Operation Animal Rescue (ROAR)

Founded in 2018, Roatan Operation Animal Rescue (ROAR) is a steward to their community by assisting individuals to give their animals proper medical care.

ROAR takes care of animals that are neglected on the streets, gives them proper medical attention, and rehomes them to loving homes. Each year they assist around 700 animals and sterilizing around 400. Their goal is to reduce the stray population on the islands. Many locals don’t have the funds to medically support their animals, so through their low cost vet care, they help prevent animals from being put on the streets.

SPCA International is proud to support ROAR by assisting them to care for animals, as well as the animal lovers in their community.

Founded in 2020 and based in Florida, US, Stray Animal Foundation of India (SAFI) work has been focused on creating an animal welfare network in Hyderabad, India.

With the Hyderabad community having a high poverty rate, little to no government support, and extreme environmental conditions, animals on the streets face difficult struggles to survive. SAFI was created to serve the animal community by serving roughly 250 a year since founded. They rehome around 50 animals and 150 sterilizations a year as well. In addition, they are training volunteers to assist with animal control services as well as educational programs to reduce abuse and promote adoption.

After hearing of SAFI’s successful start to their organization, SPCA International is assisting with them by helping to expand their sterilization campaigns.

The Llama Sanctuary

Founded in 2005, the Llama Sanctuary is an organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes alpacas and llamas in need.

The Llama Sanctuary facility has become a safe haven for llamas in need. With the onset of COVID, many were no longer able to care for their llama and alpacas, leading to an increase in people releasing their livestock to the wild. The Llama Sanctuary rescued those animals, gave them necessary medical care, and nursed them back to health. In addition to their facility being open to guests and education programs for proper care of llamas, something special about this organization is that they primarily earn funds through the sale of homemade yarns from the shearing of their animals.

After hearing of the Llama Sanctuary’s success of aiding around 150 animals a year, SPCA International wanted to lend them a helping hand as their need for assistance increased with the growing number of animals in their care.

Founded in 2017, Scion Trust is a nonprofit organization aimed to assist its community in many facets. In addition to animal work, they also assist their community in educational programs and environmental work.

Scion Trust’s mission is to assist their community at the roots of issues to help their community grow, this includes increasing the community’s exposure to animals in positive ways. It is a common occurrence for dogs to be abused within the streets without a connection to the damage they are causing. This is why SPCA International is proud to support Scion Trust and assist them in the construction of a small facility to house and protect the stray animals within their community.

Founded in 2019, Finders Keepers Animal Sanctuary is a 100% volunteer-based organization that has been helping 60 animals annually.

Finders Keepers Animal Sanctuary’s focusing on adopting and fostering rescued local animals and encouraging the local community to take care of the stray population through their food pantry. They specialize in caring for animals of special needs (medically and behaviorally). Each year, on average, around 40 animals and rehome around 25 animals each year as a product from their organization’s amazing work.

SPCA International is proud to support Finders Keepers Animal Sanctuary and their community food pantry to provide valuable food resources to the animals as well as a valuable bond between the local community member and the animals.
