BARCs Rescue is a non-profit organization that believes every dog deserves a new leash on life. Founded in 2012, this volunteer-based charity has transported nearly 2,500 dogs who were at risk of being euthanized across North America and internationally. Working in partnership with shelters, they identify and transport dogs on buses, cars and planes to pre-qualified homes. When the dogs have adjusted from their journey and settled into their foster homes, they are either adopted by the foster or become available for adoption.

SPCA International is inspired by BARCs Rescue’s tireless dedication to confronting the pressing challenge of shelter overpopulation on a global scale. We are proud to support their life-saving work.

Life for stray animals in Turkey is difficult and often dangerous. HEPAD is committed to improving the lives of these animals by rescuing abandoned animals in the streets and forests and caring for them until they find their new homes. HEPAD believes that sterilization is critical, so veterinarians neuter every animal in their care in their clinic. They are also vaccinated and tested for rabies. HEPAD takes in some of the worse cases of neglect and abuse. The recent earthquake in Turkey has devastated the country, leaving many animals needing evacuation from the earthquake zone. HEPAD has been on the ground, doing everything possible to save as many animals’ lives as possible and reunite lost pets with their beloved families.

SPCAI applauds the bravery and dedication of HEPAD and we are proud to support their rescue and rebuilding efforts in Turkey. We hope that with our support, they can help even more earthquake victims.

Ernestos Sanctuary is in the Northwestern area of Syria, squarely located in the war zone. Ernestos Sanctuary takes care of the forgotten victims of the war — Syria’s animals. They care for over 2000 cats, all of whom are survivors and have their own stories. Some cats were abandoned when their owners fled the bombing; others were born onto the streets of deserted and ruined towns where survival is almost impossible. The sanctuary also has a farm where 67 animals, including 24 dogs, four donkeys, three horses, seven goats, ten chickens, two geese, one duck, five monkeys, two peacocks, three sheep, three horses, and four doves, live. They are cared for by two excellent veterinarians and a compassionate nursing team. The veterinary clinic also offers free services to community members who bring their animals for treatment.

SPCA International knows how challenging it is for Ernestos Sanctuary to operate in a war zone. We are so impressed by their bravery and commitment to the animals and are proud to help them with their mission to improve the lives of the animals in their community.
