Their Work

Since its inception in 2013, Angels Garden has rescued 3,000 dogs and 200 cats in Greece, predominantly in the Xànthi area. In Xànthi alone, there are approximately 5000 stray dogs. These dogs are at risk of being abused and even poisoned every single day. Unfortunately, Greece’s animal welfare laws are minimal and rarely enforced. This enables people to simply abandon their animals in dreadful conditions, and let them die a slow and painful death on the streets.

Angels Garden’s mission is to rescue abused, sick, or abandoned stray animals and find loving families to adopt them. They also have a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program to sterilize street dogs and humanely prevent animal overpopulation.

SPCA International is proud to be helping Angels Garden expand its sterilization program to improve the quality of life of stray animals and the community.

Sorrento Coast Animal Rescue is a non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to helping abandoned street animals. They aid the stray animal population by providing food and veterinary care as well as running trap-neuter-release (TNR) programs. When appropriate, they help find permanent homes for abandoned animals. On average they are able to aid 400 animals per year.

Because Sorrento relies heavily on tourism, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the quality of life of local animals. With owned pets being abandoned on the street, the number of street animals in need has significantly increased, making Sorrento Coast Animal Rescue’s work more critical than ever.

SPCA International is proud to support Sorrento Coast Animal Rescue’s sterilization efforts and help them improve the lives of abandoned animals and the community.

Their Work

Since 2016, Hoedspruit Animal Outreach (HALO) has been improving the lives of community dogs in the rural communities around Hoedspruit. These impoverished communities have no veterinary facilities and the well-being of the dogs is totally dependent on HALO. They help an average of 3,500 dogs in the five communities they serve: LeBoeng, Tswenyane, Manoutsa, Willows, and The Oaks. All these communities are surrounded by nature reserves, where animals like leopards, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, and lions roam freely. Because rabies is still a big concern in these communities, their vaccination program is of huge importance for domestic animals, their owners, and wildlife.

HALO also conducts weekly outreach in the communities where owners bring in their dogs for a veterinary check. All dogs brought by the owners receive free vaccinations, deworming, and treatment against external parasites. Dogs that need further treatment are taken to the HALO camp.

SPCA International applauds the work done by HALO, and after hearing that they needed help relocating their facility in order to continue serving the community, we knew we had to help. We are proud to support their work and enable them to aid the animals and people who need it most.

Katie’s Place Animal Shelter is a no-kill, volunteer-run animal shelter. They specialize in the care and re-homing of senior, medically compromised, and behaviorally challenged cats that would otherwise have nowhere to go. Katie’s Place believes every animal deserves a loving home, which is why they have a permanent foster program for senior cats or cats with lifelong health conditions. Under this program, the cats live with their foster families permanently, and the shelter covers the costs of their veterinary care, which often prevents these animals from finding forever homes.

Katie’s Place is also committed to managing the stray cat population. They have an extensive trap-neuter-return (TNR) program. They also offer free spay and neuter services to pet owners in need.

SPCA International applauds Katie’s Place’s commitment to the well-being of special needs cats. We are proud to have partnered with them during Mission Possible and to continue to support their ongoing work.
