Global Crisis

All across the United States, there are millions of animals sitting in animal shelters waiting for homes. Less than half of these dogs and cats will ever get one, and sometimes they will not get the right one and will either be returned or sadly, be abused. The other half will be euthanized or lead a life caged in by bars, alone, afraid – never knowing the warmth of the loving home they deserve.

Making the decision to spay or neuter your pet, or encouraging others to do so, means fewer animals that have to endure an unwanted and cruel fate. Animals who are sweet, loving, healthy and deserving of companionship and care, like your own, will be destroyed because of overpopulation and our own irresponsibility.

The only way to stem the tide of abuse and neglect is to keep working together to promote and facilitate spay and neuter services throughout Northern America and around the world.

Globally, many more millions of animals are left to fend for themselves, to die in the streets of starvation and illness or to fall victim to unfathomable abuse and neglect. Those who may end up in shelters are sometimes even worse off. Countless reports of horrid acts of cruelty to animals around the world are constantly being reported through social media, blogs and news websites. The solution presents itself clearly; end the suffering of innocent creatures by reducing the amount of unwanted births.

World Spay Day is an annual campaign that promotes spaying and neutering as the proven and effective means of combating the dog and cat overpopulation crisis in an attempt to save more lives.

Encouragingly, hundreds of World Spay Day events take place in the United States and other countries around the world, and throughout the month of February. To find a World Spay Day event near you, visit worldspayday.org.
